The publication Simian 2020-2025 documents the first five years of the artist-run institution Simian in Copenhagen, as a comprehensive archive of the activities and ideas that have shaped Simian as a space for art production and mediation.

Covering 37 exhibitions and the work of more than 100 artists, the publication Simian 2020-2025 brings together visual material and a chronological overview of exhibitions, projects and public events. Five newly commissioned essays approach Simian from a series of interconnected perspectives, following a conceptual progression that gradually widens in scope.

Beginning with the personal motivations and experiences of the founders, Markus von Platen, Christian Vindelev, Jan S. Hansen and Toke Flyvholm, the publication expands outward to consider artist-run practice, the urban context of Ørestad, contemporary artistic discourse, and finally, the broader cultural significance of independent institutions. Together, the texts form a narrative that moves from the individual to the collective, situating Simian within larger conversations about art, place, and society.

With essays by Lars Bang Larsen, Kristian Vistrup Madsen, Anne Szefer Karlsen, km temporaer and Nanna Friis.
